Safety II is an emerging and evolutionary concept in the aviation industry, and requires a system focus to implement. See Systems Thinking for Safety: Ten Principles.
Implementing Safety II in the highly regulated aviation industry will require changes in how we design and implement organizations. The existing dominance of top-down structure has significant challenges in adopting an effective approach to implementing Safety II.
Through exploring different modern perspectives on management and systems thinking approaches, the Sociocratic Circle-organization Method (SCM) stands out as a mature organizational systems approach that could support holistic implementation of Safety II in the aviation industry.
This webinar is a collaboration between The Sociocracy Consulting Group and AVISAV-UK Aviation Services. Sheella Mierson, Ph.D. and John Schinnerer, MA of The Sociocracy Consulting Group and Firas Sallam of AVISAV-UK will discuss the challenges of implementing a systems approach and give an introduction to the SCM, followed by time for questions and conversation about application to implementing Safety II.
Sheella Mierson, Ph.D., a founding member of The Sociocracy Consulting Group, helps organizations and individuals design structures, processes, and relationships for creative collaboration, so that everyone can flourish.
